Police Biography

The Establishment of the Myanmar Police Force

1. The Myanmar Police Force headed by Chief of Police of the Myanmar Police Force holding the rank is under the control of the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Chief of Police takes control the whole police force in Myanmar. The present organization of Myanmar Police Force is composed as follows-

  1. Headquarters.
  2. Security Police Command Division
  3. Border Guard Police Division.
  4. Special Department.
  5. State and Division Police
  6. Training Centres.

The Headquarters

2. The Headquarters is headed by the Chief of Police who commands and controls the whole Myanmar Police Force with the assistance of Deputy Chief of Police, Chief of Police General Staff, Police Adjutant General, Police Quarter Master General, Head of Division against Transnational Crime and Head of Police Training Division holding the rank of Police Brigadier Generals who take responsible for the Chief of Police.

Security Police Command Division

3. There are four Security Police Command Divisions supervised by the Headquarters directly. These divisions are located in Yangon Region, Mandalay Region, and Rakhine State and under the close supervision of respective Police Brigadier General.

Border Guard Police Division

4. No.1 Border Guard Police Division was founded in 10 March 2014 and commanded by a Police Brigadier General.

The Special Departments

5. There are fourteen special departments headed by their respective commanders holding the ranks of Police Brigadier Generals and Police Colonels respectively in Myanmar Police Force. They are :

  1. Criminal Department
  2. Special Branch
  3. Anti-Trafficking in Person Division
  4. Anti-Financial Crime Division
  5. Drug Enforcement Division
  6. Railways Police
  7. Maritime Police
  8. Aviation Police
  9. Tourist Police
  10. City Development Committee's Police (Naypyitaw, Yangon, Mandalay)
  11. Traffic Police
  12. Highway Police
  13. Oil Field Security Police
  14. Forest Police

State and Region Police Forces

6. There are totally 15 state and regional police forces including Pyitaungsu Region Napyitaw Police Force under the control of State and Regional Police Commanders holding the ranks of Police Brigadier Generals and Police Colonels. Their responsible areas are based on respective civil administration departments.

Training Centers

7. (a) Police Officer Training School: A police Brigadier General supervises it and it nurtures police cadets to be police second lieutenants.
(b) Police Officer's Tactical Institute: Refresher Courses are given to police officers for their capacity building and it is supervised by a police colonel.
(c) Police Non-Commission Officer Training School: To raise capacity of police non-commission officer, it gives refresher courses to them under the control of a police colonel.
(d) No. 1,2,3 and 4 Police Basic Training School; These schools give basic police tatics to new police constable and supervised by Police Colonels. These schools give specific training to new police constables. No.1 Police Basic Training School also takes responsibility for Giving basic training to new police woman constables.

2. Prevalence of Law and Order.
3. Suppression and Control of Narcotic Drugs.
4. To Carry out social rendering service.

The Functions of the Myanmar Police Force

1. Prevention of Crime.
2. Investigation and Prosecution of Crimes.
3. Observance of Discipline.
4. Public Security.
5. Suppression of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances
