A monk was killed by gunfire from a group of KNU members, who support terrorism, and so-called PDF terrorists in Kyeikmaraw Township

It has been heartbreakingly found that extremists engaging in political terrorism are committing acts of sabotage within the country. These acts include firing upon and detonating explosives, specifically targeting and destroying religious buildings and monasteries sacred to the Buddhist people of Myanmar. Additionally, they are abducting and brutally killing Buddhist monks.
Since they are conducting such terrorist acts, on 14 April, 2024 at 10:00 AM, Abbot U Wayama (54 years old and had spent 30 years in monkhood), from village monastery in Thankalaung Village, Kyaikmaraw Township, was travelling in a vehicle to Tayanar Village. As his vehicle neared Khunkone Village, it was fired upon by a group of KNU members who support terrorism, along with so-called PDF terrorists. As a result, abbort U Wayama passed away from gunshot injuries, it is reported.
Security personnel are investigating the aforementioned incident to ensure that punitive action is taken against the terrorists who killed the abbot, in accordance with the law. This is part of broader efforts to maintain stability and peace in the region, it is reported.
