A Suspect Involved in the Crime of Killing and Robbing a Goldsmith of Goldwares in Aungmyaythazan Township of Mandalay Region Arrested with Evidence of Goldwares

     On 13 June 2024, at 5:20 PM, U Win Aung a goldsmith living in the Thanlyathmaw Anout ward of Maharaungmyay Township of Mandalay Region was shot and robbed of the goldware by two male suspects (under scrutiny) when he was returning home from his goldsmith shop in Aungmyaytharzan Township by a motorbike alone. In the incident, while he was driving his motorbike alone along 12 Street, two male suspects, riding a black-coloured motorbike (CZI model), followed him, fired him with a gun (gun type – under investigation) and robbed him of the goldware. The victim got gunshot injuries and was sent to Mandalay Public Hospital. Since the victim died of severe gunshot injuries while receiving medical treatment, a case was filed under Section 54 of the Counter Terrorism Law at No. (4) local police station and measures were taken to arrest the perpetrators.
     Thanks to the relentless efforts of the security personnel round the clock to identify and apprehend the perpetrators committing the crime of violent shooting and robbery; the help of security support instruments and the effective cooperation of the conscientious civilians who want community peace and stability, security personnel managed to arrest one of the suspects from the case, Kan Paing (aka) Ko Phyo (aka) Pyae Phyo Aung (38 years old) (s/o) U Myint Aung along with the evidence of robbed goldware at his house in U Daung village, Nandaw Kyun village tract, Madayar Township of Mandalay Region on 18 June, at 6:15 PM.
     According to the statement provided by the suspect Kan Paing (aka) Ko Phyo (aka) Pyae Phyo Aung, he collaborated with another suspect, Ko Moung (currently at large), a member of a PDF terrorist group, to plan the robbery of goldsmith U Win Aung and steal goldwares from him as he returned home from his gold shop. Kan Paing further contacted another suspect named Mingalarpar, also a member of the Madaya PDF terrorist group facilitated by Ko Moung, to coordinate the robbery at the corner of 12th and 89th Street on 10 June, 2024 at 04:30 PM. On 13 June, at 04:45 PM, they waited near Shwepazun Oil Shop on 12th Road for U Win Aung to arrive. When U Win Aung appeared, Kan Paing rode a motorcycle with Mingalarpar as a passenger, closely approaching U Win Aung. Upon reaching Golden Star Beer Station, Mingalarpar shot U Win Aung using an improvised gun. After the victim fell, they seized a bag containing gold items from his shoulder and fled the scene.
     Thanks to the unwavering efforts of security personnel and the cooperation of community members dedicated to peace and the rule of law, the suspect Kan Paing (aka) Ko Phyo (aka) Pyae Phyo Aung was apprehended within 5 days of committing the crime, along with evidence of goldwares. Vigorous efforts are underway to pursue stringent legal action and apprehend the remaining perpetrators, Ko Moung and Mingalabar, who are members of a PDF terrorist group.
