An abbot sustained injuries from bomb shrapnel when bombs were dropped from a drone, an attack carried out by so-called PDF terrorists, targeting the Oaktayaryama monastery in Gwaypintaw Village in Myinmu Township, Sagaing Region, it is reported.
The incident occurred on 28 January, at 1:15 PM. Security personnel were conducting security measures at the Oaktayaryama monastery in Gwaypintaw Village of Myinmu Township when so-called PDF terrorists attacked, using a drone to drop eight bombs towards the security personnel. The attack was originated from the Village’s cemetery, located approximately 800 meters southwest of the monastery. Four bombs exploded in front of the main building of the monastery, one bomb exploded in front of the Alms hall, two bombs exploded near the Shitmyintnar Pagoda within the monastery compound, and another bomb exploded at the boundary of the pound. As a result of the explosions, Abbot U Eisika (66 years old and has been in monkhood for 46 years) sustained injuries to his left calf and ankle from bomb shrapnel.
Security personnel provided necessary medical treatment to Abbot U Easika and are continuing to conduct Counter-Terrorism Operations, it is reported.
