Roads/bridges are being constructed as basic infrastructure for the development of socio-economic life in the region and to facilitate convenient and swift transportation for the people. Armed insurgents who support terrorism and the so-called PDF terrorists, who oppose peace and development in the country, have been carrying out reckless acts by blowing up and destroying roads/ bridges with homemade mines and homemade bombs.
The incident happened that, on 10 June at 0630 AM, a so-called PDF terrorist group (total number - under scrutiny) blew up the No.8 reinforced concrete bridge, built for rural development, on the Yaephyukan-Choneinn-Dalasate road located near Kautmalthu Village of Nyaunglebin Township, Bago Region. As a result of explosion, approximately 50 feet of the 110 feet-long and 14 feet-wide bridge was collapsed. Additionally, Daw Khat Kyi, 85 years old (Father) U Pu, who lives in Gwekone Village, was travelling from her home to Yaephyukan Village bypassing beside the collapsed bridge. When she arrived at approximately 50 feet away from the collapsed bridge, she stepped on another mine planted by a so-called PDF terrorist group which exploded. As a result, Daw Khet Kyi sustained mine shrapnel injuries and was transported to the Bago District Public hospital for medical treatment, it is reported.
Responsible officials are now repairing the damaged bridge so that it can be used by the public soon, and security force members are continue taking necessary measures to take punitive legal actions against the terrorists who blew up the bridge as soonest in accordance with law and to maintain stability and peace in the region, it is reported.
