In Kayin State, Hpa-an Township's Thanlwin Bridge (Tayotehla side) checkpoint was bombed by terrorists with a mine-equipped vehicle, resulting in the death of an innocent male civilian, and injuries to some security personnel as well as other civilians; three males and a female, it is reported.
The incident occurred that on 31 July at 06:45 AM, security personnel were inspecting vehicles at the Hpa-an Township's Thanlwin Bridge (Tayotehla side) checkpoint when a black HONDA FIT motor vehicle without a driver entered the wrong lane along the Hpa-an – Thaton Road, traveling from east to west. As the vehicle approached the checkpoint, it collided with a Toyota Fielder vehicle that was driving in the correct lane. However, the black vehicle did not stop. When a security personnel attempted to open the door to halt the vehicle, a mine equipped inside it detonated. The explosion resulted in the death of an innocent male civilian, who happened to be passing by near the checkpoint, and it also caused injuries to some security personnel and other civilians; three males and a female.
All the injured security personnel and innocent civilians were taken to the Taungkalay Military Hospital for medical treatment. Security personnel were taking necessary measures to arrest the terrorists who commit the detonating act, it is reported.
