In Thaton, Natogyi and Taungoo Townships, political extremists who oppose the opening of basic education schools, with the aim of preventing the education of future generations from being left behind, resort to conducting threats of violence

      The national government is opening Basic Education Schools on 1 June to ensure the full utilization of the right to education in order to prevent the education of the future generations from being left behind. With the aims to create an uneducated society following the loss of children’s rights to education as well as to intimidate students, teachers and parents, the NUG and its affiliated political extremist terrorists are resorting to threats of violence by distributing threatening letters and opposing the reopening of schools with nefarious intentions, it is found that.
      Since they are committing such terrorist acts, on 7 June at 09:30 AM, a report indicated that an insurgent group supporting terrorism and a so-called PDF terrorist group entered the Basic Education Middle School in Winpa Village of Thaton Township, Mon State. The terrorists left a threat letter inside the school premises. Security personnel went to the school and cleared the threat letter. The school is currently staffed with five teachers who are responsible for the education of 453 students, it is reported.
      Similarly, at 04:30 PM, a report indicated that multiple threat letters were found at the No. (5) Basic Education Primary School in No. (8) Ward, the Basic Education Primary School (Myoshae), the Basic Education Primary School in Htanzin Village, the Basic Education Middle School in Htangwa (north) Village, the Basic Education Primary School in Nayawetaw (north) Village, the Basic Education Middle School in Mhatkhayar Village, the Basic Education Primary School in Oaktwin Village of Natogyi Township, Mandalay Region. Security personnel went and cleared the threat letters, and are doing require investigations to identify and apprehend the individual responsible for sending the threat letters, it is reported.
      Likewise, at 07:15 PM, a report indicated that a threat letter was found at the Basic Education Post-Primary School in Baunggyi Village of Taungoo Township, Bago Region. Security personnel went to the school and inspected. Upon investigation, it is found that two threat letters, written with a soft pen on pieces of paper, were found within the school compound. The security personnel cleared the threat letters. The school is currently staffed with eight teachers who are responsible for the education of 97 students, it is reported.
      Security personnel are doing required investigations to find and apprehend those political extremist terrorists involved in the above incident with the aims to oppose schools opening as well as to intimidate students, teachers and parents, and to take legal action against them.
