In respective States and Regions, insurgent groups supporting terrorism and so-called PDF terrorist groups have been carrying out terrorist acts against non-military targets. These acts include detonating public roads and bridges, dropping bombs, firing heavy arms, using improvised mortars and setting fire to residential houses in areas where innocent civilians reside, such as wards and villages.
Since they are committing such terrorist acts, on 18 May, 2024 at 9:00 AM, a group of KIA armed insurgents and the so-called PDF terrorists fired heavy weapons to Pamatee Ward, Myintkyina Town, Kachin State. The heavy weapon shells exploded within the ward. As a result, U Than Naing Oo (40 years old), Mg Wai Bone Khaung (19 years old), and Mg Nay Lin Phyo (19 years old), who all lived in the ward, died from shrapnel injuries. Additionally, U Win Than Khine (32 years old), Ko Han Zaw Lwin (24 years old), U Nyein Chan Moe (42 years old), Ko Ye Min Htet (29 years old), Ma Elizabat Nu Pan (25 years old), Daw Wai Wai Hlaing (36 years old), Daw Yu Yu Nwe (41 yearsold), and Ma Hnin Wut Hmon Kyaw (19 years old), all from the ward, sustained injuries from the shrapnel. They were transported to No. (1) Military Hospital (300-bedded) in Myintkyina Town for medical treatment, it is reported.
Similarly, at 9:20 AM, a so-called PDF terrorist group used a drone to drop bombs on (Ga Nge) Ward, Yinmapin Town, Sagaing Region. Two bombs exploded within the Myoma Market in the ward. As a result of the explosions, Ma Ju Kay Zin Htet (10 years old), Daw Myat Thin Zar Win (35 years old), Ma Ei Thin Zar Ko (27 years old), Ma Saung Yon May (six years old) and Daw Htay Myint (36 years old), who were all near the incident at the time, sustained injuries from shrapnel. They were transported to Monywa Township Public Hospital for medical treatment, it is reported.
Security personnel are conducting further investigation to take punitive action against the perpetrators of terrorists who conducted the heavy weapons and drone-dropped bombs attacks that caused deaths and injuries of innocent civilians, and also taking security measures to restore stability and peace in the area, it is reported.
