In some townships across States and Regions, armed terrorists motivated by a radical ideology that views “anyone with differing views is an enemy” are conducting violent assaults and assassinations. Their targets are civil servants, administrative officials and innocent civilians who do not support their terrorist acts. Using firearms and knives, these terrorists are committing brutal assassinations after accusing them of “spies, informants or decoys”. This strategy is intended to instill fear among peaceable civilians and create a pervasive sense of dread within these communities.
Since they are committing such terrorist acts, on 2 July, 2024 at 1:00 AM, security personnel received a report of a man was shot dead in Ta Khwal Khyal Village, Yaedashe Township, Bago Region. When security personnel arrived at the scene for further investigation, it was discovered that the victim was U Maung Aye (45 years old) and a resident of the village. While he was in his house, five individuals affiliated with the KNU members who support terrorism and the so-called PDF terrorist group detained him. Later, when the terrorists arrived on the village road, they shot U Maung Aye, resulting in his immediate death from the injuries sustained, it is reported.
Similarly, at 2:15 AM, security personnel received a report of a man was injured by gunfire in Win Tha Yet Village, Oakpho Township. Upon conducting their investigation, it was discovered that on 1 July, 2024 at 5:45 PM, U Hla Tun (48 years old) and a resident of the village, was in a hut located at the base of Yoma Mountain near the junction of Mahar Byuhar Road and Tin War Chaung Road. At that time, three so-called PDF terrorists arrived and opened fire on U Hla Tun, accusing him of being a “decoy”. As a result, U Hla Tun sustained gunshot injuries and was transported to Oakpho Township Public Hospital for medical treatment, it is reported.
Security personnel are persistently taking necessary measures to identify and apprehend the terrorists responsible for the killings and assassinations of innocent civilians in the aforementioned cases, it is reported.
