Monks and Innocent Civilians Injured in Heavy Weapon Attack on Village by Insurgents Committing Terrorists Activities

    Insurgents committing terrorist activities have been engaging in battles, firing heavy weapons and improvised rockets and dropping bombs using drones into the public towns, wards and villages.
    Since they are committing such terrorist acts, on 13 August, 2024 at 3:30 PM, a so-called PDF terrorist group fired heavy weapons into Shwe Tike Village in Shwebo Township of Sagaing Region. One of these shells exploded within the compound of the “Shwe Chin Thae” Monastery in the village. As a result, U Mike Khal (66 years old) and U Moe Oo (37 years old) both residents of the village who were present at the time of the incident, died on the spot. Additionally, two monks at the monastery, Pyin Nyar Nan Da (31 years old) and Thiri Dhama (29 years old)  along with other villagers; U Myint Aung (62 years old)  and U Win Hlaing (57 years old) who were also present at the time of the incident, sustained shrapnel injuries. The injured individuals are currently receiving medical treatment at a Local Military Hospital, it is reported. 
    Due to the heinous acts of armed insurgents and terrorists such as engaging in battles and firing of heavy weapons and improvised rockets within towns, wards and villages where innocent civilians peacefully reside, innocent civilians are injured. Consequently, local residents are protesting vehemently against these acts of terrorism, completely refusing to accept them. Security personnel are intensifying necessary security measures in collaboration with the local residents, it is reported.
