Some of the state-owned and private communication towers were built and installed to facilitate telecommunication and information flow among people were set fire and destroyed by political extremists who oppose social development and stability of the people in the country. It has been found that acts of terrorism include arson and explosive attacks are carried out on communication towers.
Since they are conducting such destructive acts, on 25 July at 04:00 AM, according to the information indicated that communication was interrupted due to an incident where so-called PDF terrorists set fire and destroyed equipment which was being set up at a Mytel telecommunication tower (BTS type and tower No. MDY-0928) installed near Darkyun (south) Village in Myingyan Township of Mandalay Region, security personnel went to the scene and conducted an inspection. During the inspection, it was discovered that the so-called PDF terrorists had poured gasoline on the equipment and set it on fire, resulting in the destruction of a 13KV generator, seven 48V batteries, a line transmitter, three solar panels, a Battery Cabinet Aircon and wires (with an estimated value of approximately MMK 500 lakhs). The extensive damage caused by the fire led to the interruption of communication services in the area, it is reported.
Security force members are continue taking necessary measures to take punitive legal actions against the perpetrators who set fire to and destroyed equipment of a MYTEL telecommunication tower as soonest in accordance with the law, it is reported.
