Monsoon Tree Planting event was held at Sub Basic Education Middle School (Sub-BEMS) located in Khon Min Gyi ward of Budalin township of Sagaing region with the participation of around 200 people including township-level departmental staff, locals and students on the morning of 17 July. When the people came back into the town after the event, so-called PDF terrorists in two groups taking positions in the north and south of the town fired improvised mortars into the towns. As the security personnel fired small and heavy weapons against the terrorists’ attacks, the terrorists retreated in disarray.
As the result of the terrorists’ wanton attacks, many mortar shells scattered and exploded inside the towns and the explosions killed an individual who participated in the tree planting event and injured 11 others including three children under 10 years old. Moreover, some window glasses of Yaungchioo Monastery in Bandula ward shattered due to the explosions.
The injured departmental staff, locals and students were reportedly sent to Budalin township hospital to receive necessary treatments.
Security personnel continue taking necessary security measures to arrest and take actions against the terrorists who brutally and evilly fired improvised mortars to the departmental staff, locals and students and also to restore community peace and stability, it is reported.
