With the aim of disrupting the State’s peace and community, undermining the rule of law, impeding the smooth flow of goods and hindering of the socio-economic development in local areas, CRPH and NUG declared as terrorist groups, and their subordinates, so called PDF terrorists are engaging in acts of terrorism through various means, including the detonation of explosives on public roads and bridges, arson attacks on government buildings, schools, and residential houses, as well as carrying out acts of sabotage in villages.
Since they are conducting such terrorist acts, on the morning of 29 June, a collaborative terrorist group of some KNLA group members who support terrorism and so-called PDF terrorists blew up the 95-foot-long and 41-foot-wide Kyunaik reinforced-concrete (RC) bridge with bearable weight of 60 tons (bridge No.3/132), that is between the milepost 131/6 and 131/7 on the Yangon-Mawlamyaing Union highway in Thaton township of Mon state and the bridge is being highly relied by the public. Due to the explosion, about 66 feet of the west side of the bridge collapsed. During the incident, three vehicles driving on the bridge were damaged. Moreover, one innocent person was killed and other one got injured.
While security forces and departmental officials were conducting necessary rescue activities at the scene, the terrorists committed drop-bomb attack on them again. In the attack, another two innocent people were killed; ten people and some security force members got injured, it is reported.
Similarly, on 6 January, KNLA terrorists blew up Sittaung Bridge (Natthankwin) in Kyaukgyi Township, Bago Region. Due to the mine blast, approximately 130 feet of the approach to the bridge was collapsed.
Terrorists blew up bridges in Bago Region and Mon State for 24 times during the period starting from February 2021 to date.
Terrorists have been blowing up non-military targets of roads and bridges for public use in order to disrupt the travel of local villagers, make the villagers frightened, harm the flow of goods and disturb the stability. The attack on the non-military target of public roads and bridges in order to disrupt State’s peace constitutes a war crime.
For the time being, although people and small vehicles can cross the bridge, the mine explosion creates difficulties for large vehicles to pass through. Concerned authorities and workers from Department of Highways and Department of Bridge are taking necessary measures to repair the damaged bridge as early as possible, and security personnel are now taking necessary counter-terrorism operation, it is reported.
