With an aim to disturb the State’s peace and community and rule of law, CRPH and NUG declared as terrorist groups, their subordinates, so called PDF terrorists are committing acts of terrorism in various means such as setting fire and blasting departmental buildings, schools, residential houses, roads and bridges and carrying out sabotages in villages.
Since they are conducting such terrorist acts, on the morning of 6 June, KNLA group members who support terrorism and so-called PDF terrorists blew up Sittaung Bridge (Natthankwin), measuring 720 feet in length and 30 feet in width, which was the major bridge on Penwegon-Natthankwin-Kyaukgyi road and located at the western part to the Natthankwin village in Kyaukgyi Township of Bago Region. Due to the mine blast, about 130 ft of the approach to the bridge from Natthankwin Village side was collapsed.
Similarly, terrorists blew up bridges in Kyaukgyi, Shwegyin, Kyauktaga, Nyaunglebin, Htantabin towns in Bago Regions and Thandaunggyi Township in Kayin State for 22 times during the period starting from February 2021 to date.
Terrorists have been blowing up non-military targets of roads and bridges for public use in order to disrupt the travel of local villagers, make the villagers frightened, harm the flow of goods and disturb the stability. The attack on the non-military target of public roads and bridges in order to disrupt State’s peace constitutes a War Crime.
For the time being, people and vehicles cannot cross the bridge. However, concerned authorities and workers from Department of Highways and Department of Bridge are working to repair the damaged bridge as early as possible, and security personnel are now taking necessary counter-terrorism operation, it is reported.
