In States and Regions, insurgent groups supporting terrorism and so-called PDF terrorist groups have been carrying out terrorist acts against non-military targets. These acts include detonating roads and bridges, dropping bombs, firing heavy arms, using improvised mortars, and setting fire to residential houses in areas where innocent civilians reside, such as wards and villages.
Since they are conducting such terrorist acts, on 15 August at 01:00 PM, approximately 50 members of an armed insurgent group (under scrutiny) recklessly attacked with 60mm mortars towards No. (2) Ward in Kawkareik Township of Kayin State. U Tun Yin, 65 years old (Father) U Han Gyi, Daw Shar Shar Htway, 38 years old (father) U Kyaw Mya and Ma Nan Kalyar Oo, 10 years old (Father) U Aye Min Oo, who all live in Myoetawoo area of No. (2) Ward and were present near the location where the mortar shells exploded, sustained injuries from mortar shell shrapnel. They all were transproted to the Kawkareik District Public Hospital for medical treatment, it is reported.
Security personnel are investigating the incident to take punitive action against terrorists responsible for causing injuries to innocent civilians, as soonest in accordance with the law and to maintain stability and peace in the region, it is reported.
